Irregular Animal Documentation by Spidere

January 11th, 2008 5:27 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Document an animal you rarely see. Domesticated animals - whether friend, foe, or feral - don't count except in extraordinary circumstances. Beyond that, you're on your honour; in some areas, a squirrel might well be a rare sighting, just as in other areas it's quite common to see munk parakeets (i.e. the pet store kind) perched on telephone wires along Woodlawn Street...

Doesn't everyone love monkeys (and apes)? I know I do.

I've been a fan of Orangutans ever since Flitworth introduced me to Discworld and its Librarian. At the National Zoo, they have a set of fun-loving Orangutans, and interact with them in the Think Tank doing cognition research. They've even built a skyway for them to swing between their two habitats, brachiating above the zoo-goers (it's called the Orangutan Transport System, or O-line). You can see some of their projects here.

They're also just fun to interact with; this is a documentation of the human animal as well.

Though sometimes they decide they don't want to play any more.

As a bonus, I also took a video of some adorable Golden Lion Tamarins, with a volunteer talking about how they let them range outside in the summer.

As a double bonus, I tried to document the tiger cubs. However, it turns out the internet is right. Where can you see tigers? Only in Kenya.

"Ook ook."
"Well, yes, naturally I'll be voting for him," replied Miss Flitworth.
THEN IT IS AGREED.

Beautiful plumage!! is the best caption ever.
Although monkeys are kind of regulars of the zoo, aren´t they?
Nevermind, I am just pissed off I can´t watch the videos from this computer.
