Journey to the End of the Night: San Francisco Halloween 2010 by Spidere

I may have mentioned that in DC, I felt like Superman. Here in San Francisco, I didn't have that power. I was just a photographer. Just a mild-mannered reporter, doing his best for Journey.

Well...something like that, anyway.

I don't have much in the way of story. I could talk about trouble finding checkpoint 1a (which had moved since my earlier version of the map); leaping out at players along the way to try to get scared runner pictures; seeing the same runners again along the way, and rooting for them, but not seeing them at the finish; seeing some narrow escapes into safe zones, and some narrow catches. As photographer, though, this is something best told in pictures:
The turnout was incredible. I'm very curious to know what the final count was, but Justin Herman Plaza was packed.

Artmouse looked fantastic as the BART system -- one of the great things about doing this on Halloween is all the great costumes people are wearing. I love this city.

Checkpoint 1a: In the banking system, it is very important to stamp and file people in orderly fashion.
Don't hate the player. Hate the game.

Checkpoint 1b was filled with shadowy animal reapers, who asked "What do you fear?" or "How will you die?"

Checkpoint 2 was the Mobile Arts Platform

Checkpoint 3, the bizarre gameshow: Change of Face (at the Lennon Rehearsal Studios)

Checkpoint 4: Noisebridge hosted a giant board game, "Hack!"

Checkpoint 5: Players had to retrieve ingredients for the witches to brew, and to receive their stamp

Checkpoint 6: THe Bellagio, where after playing a hand of Blackjack, players could go through a laser security system and attempt to hack into the Bellagio vault.

Along the way, a glowing jellyfish might protect you:

And the finale: a surprise (to me, anyway) performance by Corpus Callosum!

You can see all of these (including the full-size versions) and more at:
