The Low Score Task by Spidere

INSTRUCTIONS: Take a picture of the Sutro Tower from your neck of the woods. Bonus points for inviting your neighbors along for a photo shoot. Bonus points for skilled/artsy/lucky photography.

main_sutrotower25967.jpg

This is the picture of Sutro Tower taken by Miss Caution. It's my favorite from all the photos I've ever seen of Sutro, here or elsewhere. I liked it so much, I asked her for a high-res copy, which I printed, framed, and hung in my room (on the West wall, naturally).

On the West Wall

It normally hangs above my desk, reminding me of SF0.
A few weeks ago, I took this picture from my neck of the woods...to an entirely different neck of the woods.

Hiking

This was taken near Deep Creek Lake, MD. Several of us went to a cabin there to enjoy some time away, see some beautiful scenery, and celebrate Kprime's birthday. I brought Sutro along hiking several places. See the photos for more stories and some nice photos, in keeping with the spirit of the task.

Below it is a Mary Cahela original; to the right is a Van Gogh print.

Hiking

Hiking

A perfect environment to show off Sutro! We hiked through the woods, up the hill on the other side of the lake, through thorns and brambles, looking for geocaches and adventure.

Tower 1

Tower 1

At the top of the hill, there were three towers.

Tower 2

Tower 2

Peering out above the trees.

Tower 3

Tower 3

It wants to be Sutro, you can tell.

Good old Sutro

Good old Sutro

...but none of the three were Sutro.

Fire Tower

Fire Tower

In addition to the three towers, there was a fire tower (used for spotting forest fires, as it's a high structure built on the highest point around). Despite its being behind a locked gate proclaiming them government property and warning trespassers, Eccoglyph and I got in and made it to the top of the fire tower...at which point my camera refused to take any more pictures that day.

The river

The river

The next day, we went for a walk along the Youghiogheny river. It was beautiful.

Swallow Falls

Swallow Falls

This is Muddy Creek Falls. It's apparently the highest waterfall in Maryland...it is also only about 50 feet high.

On the mantle

On the mantle

This was the 'cabin' we stayed in (with two fireplaces, a hot tub, and even a pool table...we love roughing it!) Another painting had been set up here, but I thought this looked better.

Sutro and the lake

Sutro and the lake

This is the view over the lake from the back of the cabin.

Nice view

Nice view

It's a great view--you can even see the three towers on top of the hill we climbed up. But could it be improved?

Nicer view

Nicer view

Ah, there we go. :)
