INSTRUCTIONS: Find an old photobook - preferably of your grandparent's generation.

Pick a photo, and make a work of art based on it - it can be a traditional portrait, a piece of music, a poem, a work of prose, whatever. Find a way to keep the spirit of the photo in your work of art - it wouldn't make sense to create a furious rock song about a docile smiling portrait of your grandmother. Unless it would.

Four Generations, Descending, in a Secret Garden

In the background of this collage is my mom's Secret Garden that she keeps in her side yard. Secret Gardens are something of a tradition on my mom's side of the family. Also in the background are two dresses worn by my great grandmother when she was a child. The collage features a picture of me, at age 27, my mom on her wedding day at age 21, my grandmother with her best friend in her late teens, and my great grandmother as a baby.
