Anachronism by TIF Nick
Mages used to stay away
To play with their magic spells.
Now it’s only bowels and gold.
No one sees, no one can know
The bliss and the wonder.
Glory to the old world, now!
And I have found my father’s tome--
“Play with us! You shall see light!”
And I have found his writings:
Magic paths of peace and joy,
Freedom and happy, bold souls
--I never would have known.
I cannot say I can see
Why he is now very weak.
“Play with us! You shall be light!”
I need to go now and see
Lost magic of happiness.
My eyes will surely open wide.
I came to a circle of stones
(As good a place as any)
I did find in father’s tome
A spell of flight, but was warned:
I would see all of existence!
What now is should not be!
Ah, in the air the wisdom blew
Soft as a youngster’s pillow.
But when my feet hit the ground
My heart shattered into two.
The wisdom that is not hears:
Stick around and see things a new way
Through magic: the deadliest of play.
