Your Phobia by TeenTypist

May 18th, 2007 11:39 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Document a phobia or phobias that you have. Put it to the test.

I am very, very afraid of needles. This is a fairly severe phobia. I went to get a TB test last month; I told myself I was 19 and should be more than capable of getting one little needle. The needle is the size of a sewing needle and is simply slipped under the skin; it's not even a real injection. However, they sent me away because I was crying and beginning to hyperventilate. I could not willingly leave my arm there and have them pierce my skin. I could not do it. To get any sort of needle or blood drawn I typically need my brother and mom there and a nurse or two to sit on me. I also attempted to face this fear this Saturday by staying with my aunt and holding her hand while she received five stitches after hitting herself in the head with a rusty hammer. I kept trying to look and kept wincing and looking away. I do have pictures of the stitches afterwards though.

I may or may not be able to get the pictures off the phone as I do not have internet access on it.

I have the same exact fear. I tried on three separate occasions to get a TB test and wound up crying and being sent away...

good luck with needles in your future, My needle-fearin' sista'!
