i think you're responsible for joe mama too. he was in the room when you told me about all this insanity.
He totally could have known about the task without registering. Additionally, if we have The Catalyst to thank for a couple of really active players, I can't see any reason why he shouldn't get credit for the task. It is, after all, a ten-point task...and Lowteck/JoeMama have earned him at least that much. :)
sirrah, the tasks do not exist in a hidden box at the end of a great tether in the outermost reaches of space! they are on the internets, and even the smallest of tubes can communicate the existence of SF0 to people. To quote the great Jules Winnfield "You are aware there is an invention called television and on this invention they show shows?"
In fact, I say let's put our money where our mouths are! I am voting for this proof. If you truly dispute it, flag the mofo and let's throw Down! yeeeehaaaaaW!
My point is that pre-existing art shouldn't be used as task submissions. Moreover, the point of the task is to encourage players to invite new people, not to show off the people that you already know. Where's the effort in that?
Given all of that, I think it's great that The Catalyst was responsible for those player's joining, but it wasn't done with this task in mind.
Flagged! Bring it on, BU!
I'm not!
I'm generally not in favor of submitting proofs done before the signup, but this is a special case, since it nessecitates knowledge of the game to begin with.
At the core of this task is the fundamental concept of spreading the gospel of sf0. I seek to enlighten those people who are destined to broaden the horizons of the sf0 community, which I think I have done. In my heart are the concepts embodied by our community. Every action I have taken upon knowledge of sf0 (before it was released) has been to expand the community by preaching to and sparking interest in potential players. Therefore i think my points are well deserved.
Regardless, my goal for playing this game is to change people's lives and alter the framework of culture and society. I could really give a flying fuck whether I get the points or not.
Whether he knew about the task or not, TheCatalyst was just that. Had it not been for his vivid descriptions of the Journey into the Night, I would never have done any of the stupid shit that I did. Thanks to this one man children were told that they were getting no present on 4th of July by rum soaked Santas, the world learned about alternative dolphin sex, and 2,000 fucking marbles were rolled down Lombard. Points Catalyst, you turned what would have been a lazy summer of smoking pot into an active summer of smoking pot. Then again, now that I have my own place, its back to a lazy summer.
Besides, this isn't nearly as half assed as some of the other shit that has been done. Ission Street anyone?
Ok... ok... While I stand behind my arguments 100%, I'll throw in the towel and accept defeat on this one. I'm not looking to start a war... just looking to keep things real.
I completely think it's okay to keep it real and I didn't want to create an environment of attrition to grind you down, so I'm sorry for that! oh, but I think the one thing I didn't say because I was horsing around too much is that in this case I did not feel like it was showing off.. instead I think what was super cool was that these guys moved so FAST -- going from the prod "you should play" to completing a carp-ton of tasks. And I was also thinking that I got the impression that The Catalyst didn't make the invitation casually or without intent to be a part of it himself.
In any case, I think normally I side with the people who express concern that tasks be done For the game, rather than credited ex post facto. It's one of the great ambivalent situations for me (example: the task I made, Fix it With Fire, has a top score completion that I think was done before, and I have some real anxieties about that. except it's totally awesome! so ... I don't know...I remain ambivalent!)
If you weren't registered, you didn't actually know about the task. If you didn't know about the task, you didn't take any action for the purpose of completing the task. If you didn't take any action to complete the task, you shouldn't get credit for completing the task.
