A Clue by GYØ Ether, GYØ Katie, GYØ Vicki, Tøm, GYØ Daryl, Askew., Non Players

June 4th, 2008 1:11 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Follow a trail of "clues". Tell us what you find.

Welcome to GYØ's completion of Team Headqu- Oh, wait....

Tom: It's about 12:15, I'm rooting through my basement for flagpoles and my mobile goes off.

"Heed the call, FrozenHaddock"

What call? Wha? It's too early for cryptic clues. I destroyed a windbreak and was about to leave as my phone goes again, it was Elliot (So I thought).

"Are you at HQ? ...Get there."

Damn, luckily I'm only minutes away from the Sealife centre (that's the perk of organising events) and I was swiftly there, to discover no Elliot. Vicki was there though, and we took cover from the current monsoon to wait for others and decide what to do, probably not HQ, but they'd kill me for not having a backup plan, must... think... fast.

Another piece of good fortune for me, as Daryl turns up. He has just received a phone call from a blocked number.

"The clue lies between the beach huts."

Much better, that's the sort of clue we can cope with in the freezing cold, and we hurried off to examine the colourful wooden sheds of joy optimistically dubbed beach huts to find ourselves a clue. Not this gap... not this gap... Aha!

Vicki finds a clue cache, containing a disposable camera, and a Tourism guide.

But it's not just any tourism guide, it's the GYØ guide to Great Yarmouth! What person would leave that lying around the seafront? A quick scan through reveals it's Ben, and it contains some photographical challenges for each location, we now know what to do. Armed with touristy camera and a guide of our own exploits, we set off for fun.

First of all, we decided on some counter-intelligence. We looked up Ben's number, and rang him. We wondered if he'd still be in town, and if he'd be laying in wait at the last photo. Ben's mum answered, Ben was next door helping his neighbour with his computer.... a likely story, but we took it at face value for now, and began.

Photographs 1 and 2, the Lighthouse café/Number 6 bus

Yes, like a bunch o' suckers we decided to go in order. Meaning far too much legwork for my liking, and not wanting to speak for the rest of them, everyone's liking. Ah well, it's a laugh, and Ben seemed to be salvaging the never-gone-ahead Team HQ.

We got to the Lighthouse, where we also met up with Askew and Elliot

We had to wait a while here to get a photo. Whilst the booklet said around a table, we decided to keep it as close to the norm as possible, and waited patiently for one of our usual spots to open up. At this point Daryl noticed the 3 or so photos already taken (Who on Earth notices these things?!) We got some funny looks from strangers as after having someone take our photo we began hunting for a clue, under tables (patrons of the café were not amused) behind bars and on the little bit below the floor by the window. However we had no luck, and after receiving another phone call from who we now knew was Ben telling us the clues would not last forever (Nice try Ben's mum, we know he's watching now), we decided to forget searching and go for the next photo, which was to be taken with a number 6 bus thanks to it's several inclusions in previous praxis.

Yeah, right. The number 6 bus comes every half hour or so on a weekday, this was a bank holiday and therefore running a Sunday Service. An hour and a half at this time of day, pfft. We left to take some of the others and returned here to catch it pulling in (good timing) Vicki snapped a photo, and we were done there. Onward!

Photographs 3 and 4, Argos and the top of the carpark from below

Argos was a quick one to take, in and out like grease covered ninjas in celebration of the original task. My only regrets are that we lacked a bungee cord, rolling on the floor, and a certain Mr Fish. Only one task was completed here and we wondered why it was in the guide, Ben says because it was fun, I agree, too much fun to be legal.

The multi-storey is a much more obvious inclusion, we do love it so. Off went Daryl to the top of it as the rest of us searched for clues at ground level. Nothing doing. Vicki thinks she sees something at the top with Daryl, but dismisses it as a trick of the light, Daryl reports no clues. Photo taken, we'll meet back at the bus station.

Photo number 5. The one that puts our awareness to shame. Britania Pier

This is us trying to replicate the photo from this task, with only 2 of the original taskers present, and only 4 people in total. Epic failure as a rephotohraph goes (we can do better, honest), but wait. Only 2 of the original participants?

Damn you Ben. This photo is what the revenge-revenge praxis will be for.

Photos number 6 and 7, a chain on the beach and the current progress on our team HQ....

It's getting windier, wetter and colder. So don't blame us for lack of enthusiasm in these photos! We approached the public to make the chain longer, they refused. We were not happy. Creepy old limping man with odd glasses walks past us at this point... what an odd day to take a walk along the beach...

Walking to the location of our 'Team HQ', creepy old man walks out of the public toilets behind the Marina centre. Vicki and me have spotted Ben in his cunning disguise, we think. The others disagree, and continue to do so loudly throughout. Was it Ben? can we be sure? We decided if he walked past us again we'd ask him to take a photo for us. Unfortunately he didn't, but we did get this shot of our very optimistically described as Team HQ. You won't be surprised if you get no praxis for that event right?

The jig is up

We arrive at my house to take the next photo listed in our handy guide, and we see a shadowy stranger sat on the hotel wall next door. As we approach Vicki spots the chalked message on the floor. The gummies? Eat them? Nom them? man what

At this point, Ben reveals himself.

Then he outed his co-conspirators.

Swearing was done.

Gummies were nommed.

(It's a pity really, we had a rather cunning and quickly thought up counter-clue trail in place for Ben to follow to retrieve the camera. Ah well, revenge is coming Ben, when you least suspect it)

The gummies are most displeased that you have nommed on them. When you least expect it, they shall return and extract their revenge.

Unfortunately, I have to admit that I done most of the nomming. But it will come to light at some point!

I fear the power of gummy.

We've seen what they're capable of.

I'm a huge fan of the part where Ben snuck into the background. That's just awesome.

I mean, the clue following was neat too.
