Trespassing by GYØ Ether, Askew.

February 2nd, 2008 7:24 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Go somewhere you are not allowed to go.

Look how we spend our weekends trespassing Industrial Estate yards. We're 'ard'

First of all, myself and Askew thought how we could make this task quite a worthy way to make our day exciting. Nothing like entering the territory of potential workers with spades and vans, wouldn't it be fun to get on the wrong side of them? Yes?... No?... Maybe? Go on, for a laugh.

As you can see we have photo evidence of a arduous quest through rubble, mudd, earth, rubble, courage and even more rubble.
It started off as a bit of a laugh before my friend Askew was inable to climb down a slightly muddy hill without falling over, then ended with ...

- smaller

The steep banks loomed upon us.

The steep banks loomed upon us.

The muddy water trickled below us beckoning to come closer. We knew that this was about to get dirty.

The only entrance to this restricted area

The only entrance to this restricted area

Consisting mainly of a crude yellow door laid across the Torrential water of doom. To complete this task we would have to brave this bridge and get to the other side.

Oops...lol

Oops...lol

Down the first bank askew went for the conventional backside route.

Going for the quadroped now.

This yard is a storage place for skips and rubble....very dangerous to the novice explorer. Oh s**t then...

Major =P

Major =P

The puddles were everywhere from the melted snow, this skip was one of many that lined the steep banks of the yard

Rubble trouble

Not very practical for climbing.

The gate

The gate

Locked obviously. Not very nice to climb around so we used the back door... so to speak (Y)

Icey

Notice the many skips. HI ASKEW :)

So what exactly are skips? I mean they basically look lik large bins, but what's stored in them and why store them there?

A short lesson on skips

JTony:
A skip is a large metal container that people rent out from builders' merchants and the like to place their unwanted detritus in. Large things particularly, after a house or garden renovation, can be placed in skips. The skip, then taken away by the company, has its contents disposed of.

This concludes lesson 7 of GYZero Ben's Weird And Wonderful British Customs. Tune in next week for the difference between a lift and an elevator, the great debate: sidewalk or pathway, and what IS kept under the royal guards' hats?

Skips for the non genius

Yeah they are basically massive metal bins. If you have got alot of crap then hire a skip and get rid of it :) usually people use it when they have liek rubble and that

It is reccomended that you use it only for thigns that cant really be recycled

and still less verbose...

skip = dumpster

and also, confusingly, dumpster diving = skipping.
well, in some circles at least.

Got it. Skip seems such a light word for it. Dumpster feels more solid.

Of course it looks like your skips have a different shape than our dumpsters. Dumpsters tend to be very rectangular, while your skips have these odd hopper shapes. Hmmm...

Yeah, I've seen a lot more variety in them over here. New Covent Garden market has these really tall boxy ones. Maybe they think they're harder to climb into that way.

No, they are easy to climb into.

I had to jump up and down on one my parentals had to crush stuff, with my brothers of whom were doing the same as me.

I think it is more a matter of it is easier to chuck things in with the curved sides.

And easier to un-load as well
