[Continued from Buy A Stranger A Drink]

So, having sent over the drink and approached the group, I went right in with my joke.

On the way over to the bar, I had asked some friends for their favorite jokes. One guy spoke up telling me that he had a joke, but that it was kind of nerdy. That sounded alright to me, and indeed it was. The joke was perfect for the task. I conveyed the joke to my new friends.

Q: What do you get if you cross an elephant and a banana?
A: Elephant banana sine Θ

Not a single one of them got it. Not a single laugh. Not even a mercy laugh. Apparently, none of them were mathematicians or physicists. I didn't bother explaining, but instead told another joke that I had read right here before heading out.

Q: Why do elephants drink?
A: To forget.

This one at least got some smiles.

In the panic I experience during social interaction, I totally forgot to ask them to tell me a joke. But nonetheless, I had an incredible time. It was too much fun to overcome shyness and interact with the world in a scary new way.
