Buy A Stranger A Drink by Walaruigio

January 8th, 2007 10:46 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Go to a bar; have the bartender send a drink to someone you don't know. The drink is your choice, of course, as is the pseudonym you ask the bartender to attribute the beverage to. Perhaps a glass of wine from Daisy Miller?

oK. It's official. I love SF0.

Tonight I was determined to cross the threshold into level 2, so I went out to the bar with two tasks in mind: this one and Tell Me A Joke. Both of these tasks seemed easy, until I actually got to the bar and remembered that I am incredibly shy.

I've been working on being more social for a good while now, but I still suffer from the onset of panic when I try talking to a stranger, or even just someone I don't know that well. It was terrifying to try to overcome this, but I was glad that I had a very compelling reason: level 2.

So I swallowed my fear, approached the bartender, and asked him if he remembered what any of the 6 people at my target table were drinking. They were all drinking Alagash White, a delicious beer. I figured that at least one of them must need a refill, so I sent over the beer with a Polaroid of myself at the bar and the message, "This is from the weirdo with the Polaroid."

Having accomplished levelling up, I dove right in to another task. For the thrilling conclusion, please see Tell Me A Joke.

On the front it reads, "You guys seem cool. Can I tell you a joke?"

On the back it reads, "sf0.org sf0.org sf0.org."

After sending over the drink, I stopped by to say hello. They could recognize me from the Polaroid, it seemed.
