Language "Encryption" by Wendy Mason

March 18th, 2006 6:42 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Using online translation tools, "encrypt" some text (that you write or find) by translating it multiple times into different languages and then back into English.

For instance, "The drive to play San Francisco Zero" translated from English to German to French to Italian to English again becomes "The order of Saint game Francisco".

The original text was my first poem, written when I was six years old: "A house on a mouse with a big red blouse."

Using AltaVista Babelfish, I translated the poem into Greek, then to French, then to German, and then back to English. The result?

"A house in a mouse with a big red top."

this is one that comes out shockingly unscathed!

...for the fact that the house is now in the mouse, which is a staggering conundrum of topography!
