First Impressions by Thain Stormbringer
January 27th, 2008 11:04 PM / Location: 42.376636,-72.07902Today was our last game of Knattleikr (reading about the basics of the game will help a bit to understand
what follows) before I move to the west coast, and was my first
chance at meeting a college friend of Frostbeard and Joton One's. I
knew that his name was Matt and I can only assume that they told him
my name before he arrived, but I made a point not to introduce myself
in any way. I wanted our first real interaction to be special.
After all of the various players arrived and we had staked out a
playing area, the game began. The teams were fairly evenly matched,
so I spent the first few opening rounds watching Matt and waiting to
make my introduction. Finally in the fourth round of play he was
standing over a pile of entangled bodies, poking at my teammates.
Since I was open, I rushed Matt and hit him with most of my body
weight on the way down to the ground. Once there I proceeded to grab
him around the upper torso and eventually roll him over me into a
face full of snow. To be honest, I am not sure which team scored
that round, but I would like to think that I made a good first
impression. Nothing gets a person's attention quite like painful
physical contact with a stranger.
