The Things We Bury For Our Friends by Frostbeard, Jotun One

January 16th, 2008 10:56 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Bury something. Contact another player that you don't know in real life and give them instructions on where to dig it up. Your instructions can be either straight-forward or cryptic.

When you contact them you should also invite them as a collaborator on the task.

Frostbeard: So, after building this god forsaken treasure, we decided to jump in the car over the bridge to Cambridge. Odin's ravens discovered that Rongo Rongo spends a little too much time over in Cambridge for that to be coincidence, so we figured we'd be nice and make her trudge through cold and snow to dig in hard ground for something she doesn't want anyway over in her part of town. Aren't we nice?

We circled around for a while, and then i remembered an area that i was in the other night before i escaped from Harvard (different weird story, too bad it isn't applicable to a task). So, went to this general area, parked the car, and set out. We didn't particularly have a shovel, or a flashlight, so this wasn't exactly the best planned tasking. We DID have a metal cup though. After staking out some area beneath some bushes Jotun One started digging with the metal cup. Unfortunately he didn't exactly get too far, as there were tons of roots in the area. We decided to abandon the site, and moved on.

Eventually we find a better site, and i suggested looking in the construction site for a shovel to dig with. Jotun One was kind enough to go procure said shovel while i took preliminary shots of the area for the directions. Once he came back, he dug the whole, i placed the treasure, and he filled it in. Some leaves scattered over the site helped keep it hidden from prying eyes, and probably from Rongo Rongo. Giving back the shovel, we moved on to a bar to celebrate with some nice pints of beer.

Oh, and then we got Thor to work his stuff and bury the site in another foot or so of snow. Awesome.

Jotun One: The beauty is we figured we'd find somewhere, and the first choice was under bushes up on a high wall, but there were only roots and me with a poor metal cup. Then a little further over we found a choice spot and a construction site. I wandered into the latter and fist found nothing, then to my excitement a hoe, which was then tossed aside for the two shovels sitting around the corner. Wodin provides!

Driving to the location

Driving to the location

Yup. Cars.

Beck!

Beck!

Beck was our co-pilot. He might be less omniscient, but he's generally more entertaining.

The device.

The device.

Jotun One has this in his car. He claims it is some sort of device that gives directions in his aimless wandering spells. I'm clearly slightly suspicious.

A starting point

A starting point

Can you find it? Probably. This part is easy.

Dark photo!

Dark photo!

So, the name of this chapel should be clear, except that it is too dark. I thought about making it lighter, but then figured it could just be a little more difficult. Are you getting closer?

Gigantic building!

Gigantic building!

Well...not totally gigantic! I mean, not to a Jotun. Anyway, it's over there you must go.

Nuclear bunker

Nuclear bunker

You should go by this thing that definitely is not a nuclear bunker on your way. Unless you want to go somewhere other than where the treasure is.

Word

Word

No messy dogs off leashes here. Otherwise these people will get mad. Are you in Cambridge? If not, that's probably not good.

Stairs

Stairs

Take them. Down. There aren't too many. Shouldn't be too hard.

A look back

A look back

If you turn around and see this, that's a good sign. If you see a McDonald's then that's bad. It's always bad to see a McDonald's anyway. But especially now.

Corner Corner

Corner Corner

Like Rongo Rongo but more pointy. There are leaves here in the picture, but now there is snow on top of the leaves. Nature is our ally.

A look down

A look down

See? See the hole we dug? No? You don't? That's because we are masters of disguise and deceit. Where's the hole? Up to you to find out.

The building under construction

The building under construction

Now you are there. Ready to dig. What? You didn't bring a shovel? The task SAYS bury right in the title! That's ok, just go to this building, hope the fence into the yard, and borrow a shovel.

Borrowed Shovel

Borrowed Shovel

Look, we never said we were the most prepared kids on the block. Anyway, check out this nice shovel they "let" us borrow at 10:30 at night. Awesome.

Hole

Hole

It's a hole. It's some treasure. Will you find it? I hope so!

As for Rongo Rongo...

You were already doing this task. I couldn't add you as a collaborator. :( Sad! Anyway, hope the treasure is a good enough substitute.

Hee hee. That is because I have a nefarious plan for this task. But, I shall go hunt for your treasure this weekend!

Awesome

Have fun. :) The snow will make this task significantly more difficult. So good luck.

The shovel was the key. So was the less frozen earth. But, frost and pillaging are key, so go for that shovel and dig deep.

We found it, we have photos, and I don't have a clue how to document it. :)

Well, I mean, I know how to upload photos and such, but I don't know how to tie it into this praxis. Or even if we're supposed to.

hey there. ya, unfortunately rongo rongo was already signed up for this same task and i couldn't add her as a collaborator, which means she can't edit this task, and neither can you. if you want though, you could send some images and i could upload them.
