Erection by Vena Nightmare

INSTRUCTIONS: Explore symbolism in architecture. Erect a rigid free-standing structure at least 30 feet high. Size matters, of course: the higher, the better. Staying power is also important, so try to keep it up for at least an hour.

This task will be more enjoyable if you collaborate. And remember, construction can be dangerous. Don't forget to wear protection.

For all the ridiculous fretting I did for this task, it was surprisingly easy. I obtained the help of my step-grandfather for all his knowledge of building and my worries were instantly all for naught. Seriously, he is made of of win.

Things that needed to be obtained for use in this task:
Duct Tape
Plastic Pipe
Flag

First the base was constructed. I dug a hole for the first 10 ft pipe and placed it inside. Then for the three tripod pieces, cut from a thicker pipe than the main tower, I dug slots in the ground for those too. The tripod pieces were sawed at an angle to better notch against the tower. Around where the tripod pieces met the tower duct tape was put.

With this base in place the two left over 10 ft pipes were put together and taped for extra support. The flag pole with my very own Vena Nightmare Flag (Cut from a pillow case and designed/painted by me) was taped to the top.

Next I hauled myself up a very tall, quivering ladder. What a difficult time to discover a fear for heights, eh? Swallowing quite a bit of whimpering, I grabbed the now 20 ft pipe plus flag pole my mom was handing up to me. Struggling against the sheer enormity of this swaying thing we managed to place it into the slot and put the duct tape on. What a thing to have a phobia for only 60 seconds!

What a feeling of accomplishment there was then, my friends! I wish I had remembered to salute this glorious monument, my flag flapping at the very top of the heavens (Or as far as I'm willing to crane my neck up). I can assure you that it was rigid, free standing etc. etc. And had we not taken it down after the hour was done, I'd bet all my marbles it'd have stayed there for a good while.

I almost forgot to mention that I wanted to use the red tape to stripe the pipes so I could put a flag on top of the "Sutro" tower, but it didn't happen.

I'm voting even though I think you forgot to use protection.

Wow. You're so young and you make it look so easy. This task makes me want to speak lewdly, but you look sooooo young I can't comment in a dirty manner at you!

Elegant minimalism. And I like the diagrams.
