Object Annotation by Vena Nightmare

February 5th, 2008 3:51 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Pick a local public object that you enjoy and leave a note on it describing your feelings in great detail.

I was originally going to write a note to everyone who saw it and tell them in great depth just how I felt about that object, which is how I interpreted this task, but than I remember the drop-box at my neighborhood library and how I once temporarily stole books from it. This task has led me to think of what if these objects could really receive my feelings? I instantly felt really bad for violating this box and wrote it the letter below.

Dear Public Library Book-Drop in my Neighborhood,

I just wanted to apologize for the last time we met. I was younger then, and I felt that I needed to impress my friends. You probably feel vulnerable because you don't have the same features as the drop downtown and my actions didn't help did they? I really want you to know that, despite all that happened, I still love you. The rusty screech of your door brings tremors to my heart as I imagine your wonderful bin keeping my overdue books safe from vandals like myself. Please remember, beloved book-drop, that is is simply not your fault that you haven't a fail-safe anti-theft feature. Do not blame yourself! In times of depression, think of me as I continue to think of you.

It's been too long,
Vena Nightmare XOXO

Taking the chance to return some books I heard that rusty screech and I began to think of it fondly instead of just annoying.

[NEXT DAY]
I returned to the library today (as a part of )to see if it was still there? I must admit i had hope, but oh well. What gets me is that even though my letter is gone, the earring is still there! Wow, when you make an offering, you make and offering.

What you did took tremendous courage and honour. Atoning for our wrongdoings is never an easy task, but it is necessary if we are to flourish as a society.

We would do well to follow in your footsteps.

I have high regard for anyone who does completions that utilize or honor libraries. Plus, your note probably amused the heck out of whoever cleared out that book drop today (unless they were that sad minority of library employee who does _not_ have a sense of humor and does the job for the rules and not for the joy), and most likely your note was passed around or at least much smiled over behind the scenes somewhere in the library. Seriously. They love that kind of thing.

Besides, you made _me_ smile.
