One sunday Josephine and the white bread cancer were riding bikes along Roosevelt Avenue in Chicago. When they arrived at Canal street, large piles of trash could be seen up and down the center of the street. Upon investigation, the trash was discovered to be boxes of boxes of intact fruit. Men with full shopping carts of tangerines and honeydews were pawing through more boxes, and gestured Josephine and the white bread cancer to do likewise. When all available bags were filled, it became apparent that reinforcements were needed, and a neighbor, Vanya, was called. A station wagon was deployed, and filled with 1 bushel peach*, 1/2 bushel plum, 6 honeydew, 1 bag tomato, 2 hands banana. The following week 2 varieties jam were made; spiced and unspiced. Peach bread and banana bread were made. Tomato sauce was made. Peach pie was made and eaten on the occasion of the white bread cancer's birthday. Plum wine is currently fermenting. Samples of both jams were mailed to Ink Tea. More samples can be mailed to anyone who would like some.
