The Low Score Task by AMP

November 6th, 2007 3:07 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Take a picture of the Sutro Tower from your neck of the woods. Bonus points for inviting your neighbors along for a photo shoot. Bonus points for skilled/artsy/lucky photography.

As I live in San Francisco under two miles from Sutro tower I had assumed that this task would be trivial. However, I turn out to live in a valley, surrounded by 3-4 story buildings, and Buena Vista lies directly between my home and the tower. Thus I have documented the trip required to get a view of the tower.

My back yard

My back yard

I wasn't expecting to see anything from my yard as there is a tree in the way.

Oak and Divisidero

Oak and Divisidero

Still no tower in sight. There is a hippy hanging outside the Medical Marijauna clinic, so nothing unusual going on in the neightborhood.

Haight and Divisidero

Haight and Divisidero

Still nothing, except for a cute red porsche. I was hoping I'd see if before passing King Foot Subs so I could fetch some lunch, but no such luck.

Waller and Divisidero

Waller and Divisidero

Started climbing the hill, and still nothing to be seen.

You'd think that you could see the tallest structure within San Francisco when placed on one of the tallest hills in San Francisco from most anywhere, but no. I did get a nice view of downtown though.

Duboce and Divisidero

Duboce and Divisidero

I reached the top of the hill and started to worry as there was still nothing to be seen.

Ahoy!

Ahoy!

My first view of the tips of the tower. Of course you can't see it at all due to the stupid daystar.

Finally, at 14th and Divisidero

Finally, at 14th and Divisidero

I was getting worried as I started to go back down the hill but then there it was, rising in the distance over the intersection of 14th St and Divisidero St. Not a great shot, but I wasn't going to climb the next hill to get a better one.

Hooray for traveling! I think you went further to see it than I did.

I may well have, what I expected to only involve taking a photograph on the way to buy lunch proved to be quite an ordeal.

I like the word "Daystar".
