Significant Gesture Creation And Use by Magpie

January 9th, 2008 6:25 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Create and document a significant gesture. Use the gesture in your everyday life. If you wish, you may design a gesture that can be used to indicate your involvement in SFZero to other players or San Franciscans.

This gesture started out as something that my boss does a little bit when he is describing my next task (bless his heart).
I feel that I have commandeered the gesture now, through:

A. Recognition (My boss has no idea that he does this, but many people I work with now recognize the gesture)

B. Definition (It didn't really have a meaning, but now it means "look at this ridiculous and indecipherable 'fill in the blank')

C. Repetition (About 5 people in my office now do this gesture on a regular occasion (at least once a day)

D. Exaggeration (What my boss does is just move the spread sheet around so that I can't see which one of the many that I work with he wants me to do, as you can see by the video the new gesture is a lot more fun)

It is significant because the gesture represents a significant part of my job, which is to analyze data and make it into a spreadsheet that only my boss can understand, oh and the numbers have to be extremely small. I certainly have incorporated this gesture in to my everyday life as well as the lives of my colleagues.

That is me snorting with laughter in the background. Thanks to my co-worker for participating
This was taken with my camera's video, so sorry for the poor quality.

That would be a spread sheet analyzing sales data for books.
