Distract the Mailman by [BLANK_NAME]

September 28th, 2006 2:58 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Distract the mailman.

I completed this task in collaboration with Carnell, one of my neighbors. I was walking home and noticed Carnell (at this point known only to me as the old guy in the red sweater) in conversation with a mailman, and I decided to go help out. I initiated a conversation about the weather, as this seemed like a fairly benign, neighborly sort of thing to talk about, and because the weather was pretty icky today. The Mailman countered my derision of the overcast weather with a comment about how it was great for him, because he didn't get too hot while he was walking around on the job. I introduced myself, learning Carnell's name, and that my mailman was Michael. It turned out that Michael is, in fact, my mailman! He knew my address when i mentioned that I lived accross the street. Then Carnell told a presumably cute but incomprehensible old man story about a cat he had seen recently with a very curly tail. Under the pretense of being a sociology student I got Michael and Carnell (who had just answered a call on his cell phone) to let me take their picture. I continued on my way.

Excellent. You distracted a distracted mailman. Way to kick it up a notch.

Brilliant! You got to meet your postman in the process, and who would have ever guessed about the curly tail :-)
I love how you just mingled with the postman and Carnell. Very cool. And the photo (plus reason for photo taking) rocks!
