Journey to the End of the Night: Chicago/DC 2009 by Ben Richards

May 4th, 2009 5:28 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Simultaneous pursuits across Chicago and Washington, D.C.

The city spreads out before you. Rushing from point to point, lit by the slow strobe of fluorescent buses and dark streets. Stumbling into situations for a stranger's signature. Fleeing unknown pursuers, breathing hard, admiring the landscape and the multitude of worlds hidden in it.

For one night, drop your relations, your work and leisure activities, and all your usual motives for movement and action, and let yourself be drawn by the attractions of the chase and the encounters you find there.

If you participated in this two-city simultaneous Journey in any way (as a player, chaser, or volunteer), please post your story here. Tell us your story of fear, lust, pain, speed, alienation, loneliness, hate, and desire.

just another night...causing paranoia and distress amongst the hordes out on a lovely Saturday eve in the Chi (and getting plenty of it too if this makes them feel any better). didn't mean for this to happen, didn't expect it, didn't really think about it - so for it, i apologize.

buying water on state and 22nd so i could make change for the bus (yes, i realized i had only 50 cents on my CTA card when the night's activities began) a man confronted me while i waited for the cashier to finish taking a phone order, waiting and rolling eyes with other customers who salivate as they eye the relatively fresh pizza slices through the glass displaycase. he didn't want a dollar for his brokedown car like the previous guy. screwtop soda bottle in hand, he tells me he has a piss test to take and asks if i would mind helping him out. i politely decline.
