Wikipedia's definition of potlatch includes several different aspects. It involves the "redistribution of wealth through "gifts, such as dried foods, sugar, flower, or other material things, and sometimes money." It also involves rituals such as dance and music, marking the passage of time or some event in the calendar year.
Our potlatch, while being based on the common definition of an everybody-bring-some-food party, did include a variety of activities, such as bathing rituals, group involvement in the preparation of food and drink, and the presentation of music by Shazam.
So the breakdown: It involved Rather Dashing, Crazy Child, Killah Diamonds and Shazam. Two of our friends from school joined us as well, but despite our ranting, did not join sf0. It took place at shazam's location, which he made sure was pre-stocked with his own contribution - drinks, music, and the location itself! RD and CC brought the appliance and supplies to make hummus with, with which hummus was made! At the time, we were working on our completion of Don't Ever Let Go, so some of the photos for this proof you'll see us constantly connected in. It was difficult, I must say, to operate at full efficiency while having to remain in contact. Nonetheless, we bravely made hummus while Killah diamonds made crepes and Shazam made meatstuffs (quite american, really - burgers and hot dogs) While afterwards, CC and I made the bubbles for bubble tea while Killah made the tea itself!
The event was in celebration of the semester's close, and as such we took place in our first annual ritualistic bathing. It was quite refreshing, while after we partook in the food we had eaten - which made us quite sleepy, between the warmth and the full bellies.
As we dried off and digested, Shazam played for us some pleasant background music in his power rangers towel, which for these purposes is as ceremonially dressed as they come.
Finally, we broke it up and headed back, laden with out newly acquired wealth - a bowl of hummus - and the supplies we had brought. A successful evening indeed!
Also, due to the fact that this was banned in the 19th century in the United States, we shall all become accustomed to being latchkey kid, or fugitives from superagents like matt damon. Pictures below, as always.

I've always thought of the thing where everyone brings some food (what I'd call a potluck) as being distinct from an event where stuff gets given away (what I meant by potlatch). But this is still full of awesome. As long as the whale is not beached.
Also, you make me wistful as these sorts of gatherings are all too rare in my circles these days.
