i appreciate the postmaster's personal concern.

eta: i used an RSVP postcard for a work event, knowing that as i sort the mail, i would be seeing it first. i folded the postcard in several places and ripped off two corners; i thought that might be enough to have the postal service consider it damaged mail, but they exceeded my expectations by (i assume) getting it stuck in a mail-processing machine. it ripped in half. fortunately the pertinent parts were intact and i was able to get my event tickets.
