Point Of View by Beta Orionis

I have a door

The Door
...

Rather, there is a door that bars the entry of unwelcome guests to my apartment. Like many doors, there is a peephole through which one might review visitors before deciding whether or not to answer the door. That seems harmless enough.

BUT NOT FOR THE

  V E R T I C A L L Y   C H A L L E N G E D!

*sigh*

I cannot view what others 6.5 inches taller than myself can a
nd we have no stepstool/sturdy boxthings in the apartment that I could utilize.

This is not good because I might open up for attackers unknowingly.

I stewed on this problem for a while.

One day, while taking notes in one of Dr. Subtle's classes sometime in May, I happened upon a solution!
                          A PERISCOPE!
and I sketched some plans...
Initially I thought of using wood or small, threaded pvc pipes, and also add a hinge towards the middle so that taller apartment mates could still peek through.

Recently, I acquired a good substitute material for the case.

which initially housed these guys and their friends.

Shortly after deciding on the casing, I picked up some tiny mosaic mirrors,

tested their reflectiveness,
and set to work!
I covered the tube in black sharpie to block out light from the environment, and covered the original label with some appropriately scaly looking duct-tape-esque tape. I also mounted the mirrors on some 45-degree-angled bases and made a cover for one of the ends (the other I just covered with tape.)

Then I mounted it on the door, and looked through!

It works pretty well!

Also, I was nice, so I made it detachable with the help of velcro.

So while I'm not actually one of the beings that stands at 5'8.5'',
I now share one little piece of their world view. :)

Nice interpretation of the task, and a good use of a dino tube

Great!

A periscope is actually what made me first think of creating this task.

It's now been made a reality.

I want to see everyone's point of view of what this task is.

Nice! Glad I could bring your inspiration into existence. :)
I'm really looking forward to seeing other completions.
