I thought I'd illustrate how much is lost when classic texts are translated into other languages. Often, with older texts, this has happened many times over.

Here is my original text:
"To be or not to be, --that is the question:--
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them?"

Spanish:
Para ser o no ser, -- que es la pregunta:- - ¿Si los ' tis más nobles en la mente sufrir las hondas y las flechas de la fortuna indignante o para tomar los brazos contra un mar de apuros, y oponiendo los terminan?

to french:
Pour être ou ne pas être, -- qui est la question : - - Si 'les tis plus nobles dans l'esprit souffrir les brides et les flèches de la fortune indignante ou pour prendre les bras contre une mer d'apuros, et en opposant terminent ?

to german:
Um zu sein oder nicht zu sein, das die Frage ist: - - Wenn ' die edleren tis im Geist die Zügel und die indignante Pfeile des Vermögens zu leiden, oder um die Arme gegen ein apurosmeer zu nehmen, und indem sie entgegensetzen beenden?

and back to english:
In order to be or not be, which is the question: - - to suffer if ' the nobler tis in the spirit the zuegel and the indignante arrows of the fortune to take or in order the arms against more apurosmeer and by oppose it terminate?
