Journey to the End of the Night Minnesota by Curiou Sir

September 17th, 2008 10:48 AM / Location: 44.970075,-93.28198

INSTRUCTIONS: A pursuit across Minneapolis in 6 parts, staged on the night of September 13, 2008.

The city spreads out before you. Rushing from point to point, lit by the slow strobe of fluorescent buses and dark streets. Stumbling into situations for a stranger's signature. Fleeing unknown pursuers, breathing hard, admiring the landscape and the multitude of worlds hidden in it.

For one night, drop your relations, your work and leisure activities, and all your usual motives for movement and action, and let yourself be drawn by the attractions of the chase and the encounters you find there.

After you participate in Journey Minnesota, please post your adventure in detail here! Tell the world how awesome you became in your transit of our fair city. How the city became ours again. How you tasted the sweet kiss of concrete beneath your feet, your heart in your throat, your chest a white flame.

my knees have been being mean to me, lately, so i had no desire to run or chase, but as i wanted to be help the journey in some way, i asked star5 if there was a place for me. she soon responded, yes, a checkpoint, and there'd be a role to play..a non-speaking one [perfect!].

even better was burn unit's plan to set me up with a desk and some papers and things [including a tandy model 102!...i should tell burn unit of my history with such at some point] to be "working" on. the idea of me being too busy with nothing to talk was great. i'm rather glad a chair wasn't brought, setting the desk in front of a park bench was a swell idea.

inky rode up in a bit and asked if i'd seen any runners...and told me, "it's okay, you can talk to me." i was unsure, i hadn't been told i should help the chasers. i did, tho. *but, i also helped some of the runners.

a jogger, commented while passing, "nice desk," the driver of the horse carriage looked amused [probably wouldn't've been if the desk had been far enough out in the path as to force his wheels off the pavement]. several other people seemed amused or confused, only one asked what was going on, tho...the guy that was there when burn unit & jjason dropped off the desk.

at one point, a cop car came up the park path and stopped about fifty feet from where i was, facing me. i got a little nervous, but then, three runners got to the desk and after i'd finished signing their manifests, i noticed that the car'd left [whew].

i started feeling a little cold and cranky roundabout 2140, but as i only had another twenty minutes to go, stayed at position to close, anyway. Left the desk and papers as instructed, but could not bear to leave the model 102, *that i stuffed into the day-pack with my trench-coat, and brought back to burn unit. And, biking up to peavey plaza warmed me up (it's a short ride, but still).

Then, off to kannon's for the after party. nom, nom, nommed the veggies and hummus kannon'd made [later, she *made me take some of it home], as well as the pasta salad star5'd brought. And made myself a drink with, perhaps, a bit too much vanilla vodka. Biked home at the end [no one'd let the air out of *my tires -- given that i wasn't a chaser].

the only picture i took the whole night was this blurry one of the park map...i repositioned a sticker i'd found on another part of the sign..

- smaller

loring park map

loring park map

post was just north of grant; any runners down by where the sticker was would not be in the safe zone.
