Contents of a Character's Wallet by Danger D. HotBod

June 5th, 2006 8:04 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: In Jack Finney's short story, "Contents of a Dead Man's Pocket", the character - clinging to the side of a building - imagines what the world will think of him if they only have the contents of his pockets to consider.

Empty your pockets, your wallet, your purse out onto a table- tally the contents and tell us what the world would think of you, if they had only those effects to consider. Then, decide upon one thing to add to the contents of your pockets, your wallet, or your purse, which will better enunciate the truth of your person to the world.

Contents of My Pockets:

7 keys on two connected keyrings
with a LED keychain flashlight that doesn't work:
- 1 obvious car key
- 1 bike lock
- 3 house-type keys
- 1 smaller key
- 1 handcuff key
the keys are on a worn black caribiner with a red latch

blue bic lighter

blue and silver cell phone

orange wallet-y type thing with a yellow star containing:
- 24 dollars
- bank check visa card - yellow
- minneapolis public library card
- minnesota vehicle insurance card
- 1 black business card for computer related business
- visa card with backpackers hiking through woods on the background
- vertical endeavors rock gym card
- minnesota driver's license
- 4 fortune cookie fortunes
- Look for the dream that keeps coming back.
- First things first.
- It is a great piece of skill to know how to guide your luck. Even while waiting for it.
- Love is on its way.

---------------------------------------------------------

Looking at the facts - this person drives a car, rides a bike, goes to the library, rock climbs, probably camps or hikes, and works as a programmer (business card name matches driver's license name).

Trying to read more into it is a bit difficult - there's not much to go on. The lighter is a bit puzzling with nothing to light, but I would assume that the person smokes. Besides that I would guess that the person is a computer nerd who likes the outdoors. The handcuff key implies some kind of subversive quality.

The fortunes hint at emotional characteristics, but it's hard to analyze outside of something to do with timing, luck, dreams, and love.

----------------------------------------------------------

If I were to add something that would better describe my person, it would have to be small and not take up any space. I like to travel with only what is needed which really comes down to having some way of getting money and proof of identity.

I ended up looking around for some kind of sticker to put on the other side of the orange card sized wallet and found an old sticker someone gave me at burning man long ago and put that on there. I figure that gives some more clues of my person.
