Cataloging Plants by detour west

April 2nd, 2006 2:46 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Identify the common and latin name of a plant or tree. Post a sign on or next to it. Submit a photo of your sign to the Biome group with the names and location of the plant in the following format:

common name: redwood tree
latin name: sequoia sempervirens
location: 20th st and mission st *

*(or 223 20th st) (or Lat/Long: 37.765 / -122.454)

extra points for native plants/trees.

For this task I took along my agriculture college student friend who was making a book of certain local plants. We went to the Idlewild Arboretum. She was looking for kinds of pine trees for a study book guide and I liked the buckwheat. The signs were already available to us, so I photographed em instead of making signs. As an apology to those who made the effort to make signs, I included a photo of tree SAP and a couple photos of birds including the flipped BIRD, to make up artistically what I lacked in ARTISTRY.
