Document Reproduction by Marshall Electric

October 22nd, 2007 11:50 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Document reproduction.

for this task, I endeavored to reproduce a text in an "illuminated manuscript" of sorts.

my source material was black's law dictionary, shown here. a dry tome, even after three pocket editions, even a single entry might do some greater good for the world in a more engaging format.

alas, my handwriting is abysmal, and my trusted sharpie, last seen in the praxis of "document dissolution," was sadly dried out after many long years of service as an illuminative tool/swizzle stick. with a heavy heart, I switched to a simple pen and a battered legal pad, setting to work on a random juicy entry - in this case, the Morgan presumption.

the results? in a charming, middle-ages way, you could call them legible. but the aesthetic value, I would argue, is somewhat present.

and if I ever find the burden of proof forced upon me as a defendant, I'll know exactly why.

Morgan presumption. A presumption that shifts the burden of proof by requiring the person against whom it operates to produce sufficient evidence to outweigh the evidence that supports the presumed fact, as in requiring a criminal defendant who was arrested while in possession of an illegal substance - and is thereby presumed to have knowingly possessed it - to produce sufficient evidence to entitle the jury to find that the defendant's evidence outweighs the evidence of knowing possession.

film of the illumination follows below.
