First Impressions by Why Not?
March 5th, 2008 6:56 PM
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a married woman in possession of a graduate studentship must be in want of some enlivening. However little known the feelings or views of such a woman may be on her first entering graduate school, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of her surrounding co-workers, that she is considered as the rightful property of some one or other of their parties.
``My dear Bethany,'' said her officemate to her one day, ``have you heard that there is going to be a graduate student social at last?''
Bethany replied that she had not.
``But it is,'' returned she; ``for my advisor has just been here, and he told me all about it.''
Bethany made no answer.
``Do not you want to when it is?'' cried her officemate impatiently.
``You want to tell me, and I do not think I can avoid hearing it.''
This was invitation enough.

Nice.
