Ah. A koan.
Nowhere.
Nowhere this. No where this. Now. Here. This.
The middle of nowhere.
The middle of no where
or the middle of
now here
?
No matter how it is stated (indeed no matter, only point of consciousness), it's the spaces between that make the difference. Space in which to move and be aware.
Remove the middle letter, the physical middle of 'nowhere' and now it's 'now ere'
Now, ere I post this completion, I contemplate the middle of nowhere -- no where, now here. And can feel the familiar shift of consciousness. Nowhere. No 'where'. Now here. And in the middle of nowhere, I find I am.
(Whom do I have to thank for this task?)
Now, the difficult part as I'm pulled back from nowhere to this where. To truly show others the exact location of the middle of nowhere as seen and interacted with, as explored by this individual (where and nowhere, oscillating as I typed and contemplated... it's not very easy to hold that state while attempting to linearize, and no wonder) would require an fMRI and a few blood tests, to show what the brainmeats did and how neurotransmitters in brain and heart and belly changed from my daily baseline state.
I don't have those available (but would definitely be willing to reattempt this task, given a chance to play with surplus medical equipment from Smartypants the Elder).
Instead of fMRI, EEG and/or EKG tapes, or photographs of me sitting and staring into the middle distance of the deep, deep depths of this computer screen, I have book titles that seem to play into the theme of the cartography of my exploration and contemplation of the *exact* middle of nowhere.
Zen and the Brain, James H. Austin
My Stroke of Insight, Jill Bolte Taylor (hemispheres ~ serial and parallel processors). TED talk
The Secret Teachings of Plants, Stephen Harrod Buhner (the section on cardiac neural cells and neurotransmitters)
The TL; DR version:
To make a long story very, very short, the exact middle of nowhere is easily findable by simply taking a small step to the right of one's left brain.

Have you ever seen amberite's wrist tattoos? "nowhere" (or "now here") and "here now" dependent on how sie turns hir hands together. beyond being mind-boggled by the courage for such a thing from someone whom i know well understands both permanence and job/class-markers, i just love love love such a simple concept/wordplay I'd never thought of. and here you go tromping all over the place with it with your pretty words, and new book recommendations to boot. oooh. shiny.
