Disobedient Nature by Cameron

Sure, plants do make a good go of slowly eating away at the works of man; but for disobedience, the Sea is the real winner.
At the foot of Land's End lies the ruins of Sutro Baths; a once great landmark, first reduced by fire, then wrecking ball, and then finally the Sea took it's toll. Looking at in now it looks positively ancient; you'd never guess that it was standing a mere 40 odd years before...
1-5) Shows the scope of the ruins, and the rock foundation that remains. Plants, birds, moss and critters fill every possible space
6-7) Shows plants taking root in the cracks in the ruins
8) Shows a piece of the ruin that has been re-acquired by the Sea for use as a tide pool
9) Shows the state of what little iron remains; turned brittle and red by the Sea and salt, looking for all the world like wood
10) Shows a recently crumbled staircase that finally succumbed to the collapsing tunnel beneath it

Heh. I have a long standing bet with someone that Sutro Baths is the site where Harold blows of the recruiter. He thinks it's in L.A.
He thinks a lot of things...
This is definitely one of my favorite places in San Francisco. If you want a look at its condition 30-odd years ago, go rent Harold and Maude (which is a great movie for non-Sutro reasons, also).
