Dream About Another Player by Cameron

July 1st, 2006 8:34 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Have a dream about an SFZero player that you don't know in real life, or at least that you didn't know before joining the site. Try to describe the dream as thoroughly as possible in your proof.

7/1/2006

So, I suppose this was a bit of a cheat but: I can occasionally lucid dream, or at the very least, strongly influence my dreams by looping thoughts as I fall asleep. Without meaning to do this task, I was dwelling on an invite for a collaboration I sent out just before sleeping, to Avidd Opolis, Rubin Starset, Matthew Marchand, and Britt Crawford.

So here's the dream: It was very abstract. Although I knew who the charcters were they never really appeared as anything more than thier avatar's pictures and moving blurs, since the dream took place entirely 'online'. I dreamt that we had completed the task, but were embroiled in a game of wits for control of the points.

Sidenote: At work, in the waking world, I frequnetly play an online version of Risk, called Warfish. It's identical to Risk, but it's board is reduced to simple, colored squares. Back to the dream...

The task itself was represented by one of these colored boxes. Online, we were battling for control of the box, and hence all the points of the task (since it was a dream, 'online' was not on a computer screen, but simply a different location). The last thing I remember is Rubin, or Rubin's avatar rollng the virtual dice and taking over a good half of the task. I was trying to make alliances with Avidd and Britt to regain control of the task/battlefield.

Later in the dream I went to a closed comic shop, broke in, and started drinking. Then some old lady did not recognize appeared at the cash register and suggested that I go to the movie theater to see a remake of Jaws. It was a long and strange dream.

Updates: In an effort to expand on my older, leaner tasks, I'm adding the last SF0 dream I had. I've had about a half dozen since then...

I dreamt that thier was a task that was essentially: Attend a party for 1000 points. I knew since my hectic schedule had prevented my attendance of many previous engagments, I was honor-bound to attend. And I could not pass up on the absurd points.

But there was a catch. The party was in Minneapolis. And Minneapolis, in classic dream logic, was in the middle of Salt Lake City, Utah.

I calculated that I could drive there after work, and make it in time, but would not be able to get back in time for work the next day. So I sadly conceded that I could not make it.

But then it became clear that Ms. Piratey Monkey would be attending, vaulting her score 1000 points ahead of mine.

This would not do!

For the paltry some of 45$ I was able to secure a round trip to Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Utah. But when I landed, I realized that I had neglected to get an address, and I was lost.

Internet is illegal in Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Utah, as was anything else that was fun, or informative; so I was forced to cruise endless suburbs, with the lights of my rented car off, looking for a place where furtive fun was being eked out in the dark. I found the party, raging in a fallout shelter from the cold war. Piratey was in attendance, as were lowteck, Avidd, Mouse and Mega Meow... The room was packed, all people I recognize, but the rest of the names elude me at this point.

A blast was had by all and I was able to keep my point total even with Ms. Monkey... for now...

And I just noticed how much Karl Jung looks like Richard Dreyfus in that picture.
