Quiet Spaces by Cameron

May 30th, 2006 10:44 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Find a space that is devoid of city noise: no faint rush of traffic in the background, no voices of random passing strangers, no bass thump from a distant stereo. Quiet. (Of course natural sounds are hopefully to be expected: perhaps birds, perhaps animals passing through underbrush, perhaps wind passing thorugh leaves, perhaps a brook; but no man-made noise.)

Record your location as proof; if possible, a recording of the quiet would be lovely.

I thought that the spot in Golden Gate Park farthest from any road would have been the quietest, but nay, due to some trick of acoustics, it was not. But I did find this lovely spot above a little pond. Mysteriously, although I could see a nearby road, all I could hear was the wind, the birds, and a lone barking dog.

Attached is a recording of my Silent Place, plus one barking dog.
