Language "Encryption" by f_unk

October 20th, 2006 11:33 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Using online translation tools, "encrypt" some text (that you write or find) by translating it multiple times into different languages and then back into English.

For instance, "The drive to play San Francisco Zero" translated from English to German to French to Italian to English again becomes "The order of Saint game Francisco".

For this task I decided to take the well know shakespearian quote:

To be or not to be: that's the question

And see how translations screws it up. I used 3 translation sites for diversity in languages.

English - Norwegian (freetranslation.com) :
Være eller ikke være : det er spørsmålet

Norwegian - Romanian (www.tranexp.com) :
A fi feel sau nu matter a fi feel : acesta este art.hot. prompt

Romanian - Danish (www.tranexp.com) :
Befinde sig eller ingen spřrgsmĺl befinde sig : den er den. prompt

Danish - Italian (www.tranexp.com) :
Essere sentire o nessuno domanda essere sentire : è il. pronto

Italian - Greek (www.tranexp.com) :
οντότητα μαθαίνω o's ούτε αίτηση οντότητα μαθαίνω : είναι το σταματάει στο. θέληση

Greek - Dutch (www.worldlingo.com) :
entiteit leer ik o's noch toepassingsentiteit die ik heb geleerd: het is het binnen tegenhoudt hem. zal

Dutch - English (babelfish.altavista.com) :
entity learns o nor application entity which I have learned: I it is it within stops him

Which is ofcourse still a very beatyful piece of poetry...
