For a long time now I've been wanting to make a complete pirate costume. Talk Like a Pirate Day 2006 was the perfect chance to make another part. Things seemed like they'd reached critical mass, as when I found an excellent pattern on the internet. I've had a big box of leather scraps for a while. So, even though I had to improvise a bit (the pattern calls for a solid piece of leather and I had to stitch several together) the hat came out quite well, if I do say so.

This was not my first foray into the wide world of hat making though. A while back I made a hat shaped like an octopus and Wilhelm Fink wore it out to the TLPD party at Piratey's house. I wish I'd thought to take some pictures while I was there, but I do have this nice shot of us on bart.
