I got this mark from truly walking a mile(or much more) in another friend's shoes. My car ran out of gas last summer 3 miles from the nearest gas station just out of chicago. I was with two friends and we had to walk to a gas station laden with change and no bills. The first station wouldn't accept the money so we had to hitch hike to the next station and walk all the way back.
