Document Growth by JR Bobb Dobbs

April 5th, 2007 1:30 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Document something growing.

So, instead of cutting corners, I want to have all my own herbs grown, completely from scratch, in the window box that I built, accentuating the meals that I'm preparing. Got the window box and soil and seeds, but the seeds are old. Will they grow?! Do the have a shelf life? Luckily, there's a way to figure that out before toiling away.

Modified window box; Cedar boards that I re-assembled after my first window box attempt. Currently sitting outside my kitchen window, weathering, and waiting for spring-undeniable, as well as it's new crop.

Will the grow? Do old seeds have a shelf life? A little exploration brought me to a seed variability test. Here you are looking at my future crop: Spearmint, Basil, Thyme, Chives, Oregano and Sage.

My high-tech method of catagorizing those which are viable, and those well, you get it...

I'm only using the upper 1/4 of the paper towel. I fold twice, and place in a plastic bag, sealed, and kept warm.

at this point, I have growth from Thyme, Basil, Mint, and Chives. Oregano and Sage are the two who aren't showing, yet. No proof here, just wanted to show you my great organizing abilities!
