Contents of a Character's Wallet by Cthulhu Kitty

January 9th, 2007 7:40 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: In Jack Finney's short story, "Contents of a Dead Man's Pocket", the character - clinging to the side of a building - imagines what the world will think of him if they only have the contents of his pockets to consider.

Empty your pockets, your wallet, your purse out onto a table- tally the contents and tell us what the world would think of you, if they had only those effects to consider. Then, decide upon one thing to add to the contents of your pockets, your wallet, or your purse, which will better enunciate the truth of your person to the world.

First, the contents of my wallet:

280 dollars in twenties, a ten dollar bill, a five dollar bill, and five ones
A Virginia Beach Rock Gym Belay Card
A United Milage Plus Card
A Government issued courier card
An RPGA Membership Card
A GameStop Value Card
2 phone cards
A Navy Smart Card
A bank card and business card
One Credit card
A CPR Card
An AFAA Membership card
My Social Security Card (shame on me)
My Japanese Driver's license
My California Driver's license
A picture of me during Navy boot camp
A picture of a guy I dated 3 years ago
2 pieces of papers with addresses on them
9 subway sub club stamps
3 safety pins
1 thumb drive

2nd, the contents of my pockets:

prescription medicine for coughs
two pens
one key
one flashlight
My ID
a bottle of cranberry juice
my wallet
a digital video camera

Looking solely at these contents, it appears the subject was in the Navy, and may have had access to sensitive material. Subject travels a great deal and is into sports and eating healthily. Subject may have been a computer technician or may just have been a computer gaming geeky type. Subject was in the process of getting over a cold. Due to lack of family photos, subject may have been single or otherwise without family. The photos of herself several years ago and an unknown young man hidden behind the rest of the contents may indicate a separation from her past. And what was the camera for? Perhaps she was a spy! What was that cause of death again? I wonder what's on this camera...
