Pilgrim's Progress by Theo Playfoot

All i could think of with this task was the prologue to the Canterbury Tales. alas, i wish i could speak middle english.
To make a long and poorly translated prologue short, I decided to make a pilgrimage to a place i have heard about and searched for 4 years, since my freshman year. This is the alleged tunnel or cave beneath the field hockey field. I had heard of the cave for a long time, and for three years searched with my best friend and fellow explorer for its location until he graduated last spring. I finally had the story confirmed by a teacher who revealed that it was not a cave or tunnel, but merely a cistern in the woods by the field. The cistern was from some unknown earlier time and structure, and was discovered by a group of kids who used it to smoke dope and drink in it. They were caught by the dean of students who made them fill in the cistern with sand. The cistern was a 15 foot deep hole shaped like a giant underground bottle, with walls of local masonry stone. I set out and rediscovered this lost treasure, a true tragedy. I made a pilgrimage to it, finding it closer than i thought.
And so i tromped through the woods, carefully circumnavigation the field hockey game that was in progress, before tromping down one of the area's many steep and sudden slopes, crashing into the woods. I had barely walked ten feet before I saw....

Hmmm.... a large raised mound with scattered pieces of old concrete. Wonder what this could be?

not quite what i expected. odd sight indeed. still have no clue what those two I-beams were for....

all that remains of the cistern. The ladder in the upper right goes to show that it once must have been fairly deep. but to give you an idea of the current depth....
would make a great snowball fight fort
should give you an idea of how deep it is. i am around 6 foot and the hole was about half my height in depth. the original depth was around 15 feet. such a shame.
