On Saturday night, it was a bad night to be a human. Out of 1200 runners, 70 people survived. 6.65% survival rate isn't so hot.
Nearly everyone made it to checkpoint 1, but only 400 made it to checkpoint 2. See, 395 was between 1 and 2, with only a couple ways to get across it. Ambushes abounded at the chokepoints. That's where my team (Team We Had An Awesome Name But Forgot It) got caught and eaten.
Shortly thereafter I managed to snag a pair of kills for my trophy belt. One was a pack of blues that tried running, but one went left when the others went right, being separated from the herd and eventually brought down. The other was a girl who tried to act totally cool and wander by, until I happened to notice her armband. It was quickly over after that.
You'd be surprised the bursts of speed I can put on.
The opening was really, really adrenaline pounding, too. The organizers were speaking, giving the "these are the rules, don't do blah, don't be an idiot. In a few minutes we're gonna blow the whistle to start the event and the chasers are going to start running you down TWEEEEEEET!"
Orange ribbons erupted out of nowhere and the whole crowd of 1200 panicked! People were jumping fences and running in all directions just to get away from the direct vicinity. Our team got split up right then.
We managed to get our wayward team member on the phone as we made our way through the back lots of a hotel to the first checkpoint. We set a meeting place, but there was always a nagging doubt in the back of our minds. What if he was already infected and he was setting us up? As it turns out, our fears were unfounded, this time.
Also, some of the chasers had bikes. I saw one that looked like it was bedecked with ribbons; closer inspection showed it was full of trophies. 13 kills at least.
