Fortitude Valley is a very old suburb, over 200 years old and most of it is heritage listed buildings.
There must be some interesting sights to be seen from the roof of these. old brick buildings, sealed off alleyways and 1950's detritus. So i walked down brunswick st and climbed the first set of stairs i found.

It led up and up, past the council office a blank door and ended on a landing with some wheelie bins. a rather angry no smoking sign claimed i could be fined $5000 and that what lies beyond is off limits to the public.

well Kommando aint no public so i thumbed my nose at the sign and climbed up to a lonely open door with an identical sign.

NO PUBLIC ACCESS the sign taunted me but beyond the threshold of this dark portal lay a whirring wooshing mechanical contraption and a glimmer of light beyond.

i entered the gloom and made my way past a large air conditioning unit into what appeared to be a store room. there was paint and copper tubing here. as i was photographing the junk something clicked and whirred to life above my head, it was loud and abrupt and made me jump. i whirrled and photographed it to get a better look. two turbines, maybe generators it seemed.

but the real treasure lay behind me, a crack of light in a large vented panel up a short set of six steps. what luck, the latches were not locked and i slid the bolts aside and pushed the panel outwards.

TADAAAA Roof access. well that was easy.

i climbed out and had a look about, there was a ladder here that went up even futher, atop the room i was just in. i put my coffee down and climbed the ladder, above was some sort of power box and a large sattelite dish. i could see the mcwirthers building across the mall and climbed out along the edge of the building to the facia and took some photos from three storeys above the mall.

wow. there was some junk up here. and the sides of these old buildings are really interesting, i saw at least 1 bricked up stairway and another ladder onto a different roof over yonder. i stoodup here admiring the view for a good 10 minutes before i decided to climb down and slink away before anyone noticed i was here from the apartments across the way.

i am ninja.
