Dream About Another Player by la flaneuse
August 6th, 2006 10:20 AM
This is what I had been dreaming when I awoke this morning:
Gadget emailed me: "Someone is impersonating sf0. Is it you?"
Wha??
Then I quickly got another email, this one from Pan Dimensional. Wait... I thought there was a player named Pan Dimensional, I swear. Looks like PD is not here, maybe? Heh. Anyway, the email said basically the same thing as Gadget's: "sf0 is being impersonated, and we suspect it might be you."
No, no! I protested in the dream. I have no idea what you're talking about!
I was thinking to myself, Aww, man! Does this mean that I won't get to do Journey to the End of the Night in Brooklyn now? If someone else is impersonating sf0, then it won't count. Could still be fun, but it wouldn't be the same. How disappointing.
(Background: irl, I am getting ready to move to start grad school in NJ this fall. I had actually been looking at the Conflux site the night before since I will be living in the area by then and so should be able to do some of those events, so that's probably one source for this dream.)
At some point I was talking on the phone then with either Gadget or Pan, but I don't really remember what we were talking about. I had no idea why they emailed me and silently wondered if they were able to trace my click through to sf0 from the project description from the Conflux page back to my character.
Then I thought that masquerading as the entire game, not just one player, might be a coup, not a negative. "I'm flattered, I think, but no, really, I'm not up to that league of play!" I started to protest.
Then I realized that they really suspected Aaro Landr of impersonating the game itself and were just trying to flush out any info from me they could since he is the only character I've friended so far. "I just haven't had as much online time in general because of the move and so I haven't really been very social on sf0 and anyway, I don't really know him! I haven't actually met him. I just know him from hiptop Nation."
My head was spinning. Was impersonating sf0 a good thing or undesirable? Why were they contacting me about it? Are Gadget and Pan trying to trap Aaro in something? I don't know enough yet about all the sf0 machinations to see the truth here... In the dream, I wanted to go check the Conflux site when I woke up to see if there were any slight variations in the sf0 logo or something else to indicate it wasn't the real thing. What was going on?
The last thing I remember is either Gadget or Pan saying (but in person this time? how'd they get there from the phone?), "Rubin's going to be mad."
I woke up, puzzled. When I went to the Conflux site to get the link for sf0's Journey project, a corner of my mind still wasn't sure if I'd find it or not.

Of course everything has to change now that La Flaneuse has inadvertantly intercepted our transmissions... or does it?
This is a scary read because some of the things you wrote about are about to be true in a way you wouldn't expect. And Rubin's going to be mad.
