Pimp My Ride by Zoo Babies Pet Animals, Non Players
June 21st, 2008 7:44 PMI am deciding to pimp my bicycle. It's not really that cool looking right now, but it's going to be.

Today I began to take my bike apart. We're pretty much done with all of that, but the only problem is we need a chain cutter to get the chain off of the bike. We tried banging a hammer over it on a rock for hours but this proved to be very futile. That's what's up now.

Okay, so I'm no good at keeping diaries. But I DID finish pimping my ride. I decided that I'm better at just taking pictures and making captions. So that's what you get.

I forgot to say that refinishing bikes is hard. You can use this as a loose tutorial but nothing is a substitute for patience. And, also, good lighting. If i had to change anything about this, I would have changed that. Also, if you want some intricate complex thing on your bike, be prepared to a) FUCK UP (but i wouldn't know because I didn't try anything like that .... i did have hoop dreams, though) and b) take a lot of time and use good materials. I want to do another one... I will have to get a little retrospective on myself and listen to my own advice. But, nonetheless, I am very please with the results... babe hawaii, I wish i had your patience and excellent documenting skills. props!
The Original Paintjob

This is my old Giant mountain bike. I'm a mountain woman, so this is what we ride. But, I felt I needed a new paintjob for this biatch.
Striping the Biatch

This was a total biatch. I don't know if you've ever stripped a bike before. If you get a little bit on your skin (the stripper) it's like Satan himself is sucking off a tiny bit of you. It burns.
Almost done stripping...

And there's Teddy in the background. He's putting together a different bike.
Go colors! And strippers!

I recommend: Painter's Touch products in the following colors.....Light sage (more like a taupe), Some baby blue color, and Paprika
Okay now, ready to prime

The bottom bracket is off and the biatch is all taped up and ready to be primed. Note that lots of sanding was involved in this process.
Painting bikes in garages helps you bond with neighbors

This is Mike, he likes to be naked. We became lots closer through this process.

i've been planning to build a bike as a summer project for... well, since last summer. there still might be time to do it this summer. i will definitely check back to this praxis when the time comes for tips and inspiration.
There's an article in Make magazine about un-pimping your bike so it isn't a target for thieves.
Thanx....totally want more of this link..
I like being personally adressed within a task write up. Thank you.
And: I like Teddys bike, but I like yours better.
