INSTRUCTIONS: Shrink something.

okay. at first i thought this was going to be easy. stick hand in water. shrink fingers. duh. after 5 minutes nothing had happened. after another 5 minutes, still nothing happened. the task ended up being a meditation practice since i stood in that bathroom, hand in water (varying the temp from cold to hot, back to cold, and back to hot, alternating a few more times) for 50 minutes

Childhood memories...

I remember soaking in the bath for too long as a kid and after noticing that my fingers had shriveled up, I couldn't help wondering if bysoaking in the bath long enough, would I eventually shrivel up into a human raisin? Luckily, I never experimented with that.

Are you sure?

Hi Travelbug,

I hate to be a spoil-sport, especially in the face of a creative and well-documented completion, but are you really shrinking anything?

I'm no biologist, but I've always assumed that hands wrinkle in water because the outermost layers of skin take on water and expand. The alternative, that the underlying substrate somehow interacts with the water and shrinks while the top layer remains unchanged, seems implausible enough to require some evidence. What's more, the dozen or so top google hits support that assumption.

Until you convince me that something is actually shrinking, I'm afraid I can't in good conscience vote for this.

(This is generally the part of the conversation where we segue into a long discussion in which I attempt to convince you that I really do know how to have a good time and that precision isn't incompatible with humor. As you no doubt can imagine, it is not a discussion I often win. So, I'll just apologize for being an uptight, no-fun, fuddy-duddy and leave off here.)

Sheesh, Loki, you trying to squeeze all the creativity out of task interpretations? You completed Pavement is Paper without touching a pavement, after all...

:)

Well, travelbug, I know Loki wanted to vote for you really, so have a vote from me on behalf of both of us! That much patience certainly deserves points.

Hee hee.

Touché, Charlie Fish.

I withdraw my objection. If it seems like something is shrinking, then I suppose that's good enough for me.

awfully chivalrous to come to my defense sir fish.

while i certainly hoped for some votes (don't we always), my praxis acknowledged that i knew i may not have been keeping to a "strict" definition of "to shrink".

loki's point is fine (albeit unnecessary) since yes, SF0 is about creative interpretation. if my interpretation was weak, so be it. if it wasn't then bring on the votes!
