A place you have never been. by travelbug

My magic word is INFORMAL. Receiving such a charming, relaxed word, It's hard to believe that google maps couldn't come up with anything near me in brooklyn. But so be it. Today is Sunday. The perfect day for dim sum. I'll let you all know how it is.

boy did I luck out on this on. Yesterday was a beautiful day in New York. Sunny. Hot. Some here say too hot, but New Yorkers are famous for complaining. Being from San Francisco, i'm happy to live somewhere where a heatwave means high temperatures that last for more than two days. But I digress.
I headed into the city from Brooklyn. I went to a yoga class first, knowing that I would be ravenous afterward. And it turned out that this "Chinese Brasserie" was not actually that far from the studio. When I arrived I was both delighted and disappointed to discover that this was no hole-in-the wall joint. It was a high-end "dim sum" restaurant in the location where a very touristy place called Time Cafe had been. (an aside for those of you that know nyc, maybe you knew this, but I had no idea that Time Cafe has been gone an entire year!) But I had a feeling it was going to be delicious.

It was quite an attractive restaurant

but the important thing was how was the food!!!
As I looked at the menu I realized that there were lots of things I would like to order, but only one of me so I had to be careful. I asked the waitress what she liked and I got two things she recommended (beef summer rolls and pork steamed buns) and one dish I love (pork fried dumplings).

Everything was absolutely delicious. Really. i'm not just saying that cause i was hungry. it really was fabu. (okay the beef summer roles were the best, they had mint and the peanut sauce...yummmm) but i needed something else, and so having eyed another table who had these, I ordered a bloody mary. (yeah, i drink by myself. so what) And i sat there and read my book and drank my cocktail before heading to the final part of the task. The check arrived with a chocolate fortune cookie and with great anticipation, i cracked it open to reveal my fortune.

yeah, i know, what the hell does that mean? do i need to split before i'm arrested or do i need to get home before the food poisoning sinks in. Whatever. Fortunes have multiple interpretations and uses!!
Turning the slip over, i wrote my word and with great stealth affixed it to the outside of the establishment.
