The county fair: Nostalgia! Americana! Food on a stick!
Today the Lolbrarian, Julian Muffinbot, and Muffinbot's brother relived NOT ONLY their past fair experiences, but thanks to the STARSHIP 2000, they were able to relive... THE YEAR 2000.

Once inside the STARSHIP 2000, they counted down the years as they slipped away into the past: "2008... 2007... 2006... 2005... 2004... 2003... 2002... 2001... 2000!"
They had arrived.
The sensation of time travel is quite interesting - much like being flattened. As a result of the experience, The Lolbrarian indicated that she did not ever want to be an astronaut. According to Wikipedia, our adventurous band of time travelers experienced a force 4x that of your normal Earth gravity while traveling in the STARSHIP 2000. (One can thus assume that it takes 1/2 g to travel each year back in time. So, traveling to 1950 would have required a ridiculously awesome[1] force of 29g. Too bad there wasn't a STARSHIP 1950 at the fair.)
The STARSHIP 2000 produced a sense of nostalgia in all travelers. Muffinbot and her brother recalled a previous trip taken on such a ship, when they were very young. They do not recall what year they traveled to. Possibly they actually traveled forward in time, from the late 80s to 2000, or perhaps they traveled back to a time before they were born!
While the Lolbrarian had not previously experienced the amazing time-travel technology of the STARSHIP 2000, she did experience intense feelings of nostalgia. She and Muffinbot were in high school together that year, dreaming of the day they would be free of the horrors of that place. The crushing sensations of gravity in the STARSHIP 2000 were reminiscent of the freedom-crushing sensations of high school. And yet the experience was strangely compelling-- truly the STARSHIP 2000 is marvellous. Praised be the Egyptian bird god things and/or the benevolent futuristic aliens!
(We sadly were unable to get any photos inside the STARSHIP 2000, but rest assured it was pretty futuristic in there. There were at least 4 colors of flashing neon lights.)
[1] By "ridiculously awesome" we mean "lethal".

Futuristic pose!

Muffinbot and her brother strike a futuristic pose, celebrating their successful journey to the year 2000.

This is either part of the past, or part of a very disturbing future... Either way, we're pretty sure this was not from the year 2000. You can tell because there are no creepy aliens or Egyptian space gods.

Wait - there are more of us here from Cabin X? Alas, I never got to participate in the sleepovers with marshmallows - I just got to throw them in e-mails... ---(__()

That comment was supposed to show up as a reply to the first comment - not sure what happened.
i remember the year 2000! i was in high school as well, geeking with the lolbrarian and julian muffinbot over x-files on a mailing list. and the new x-files movie comes out next friday. coincidence? i think not. though the first movie came out in 1998 (!) not 2000. by 2000 the show was in a downward spiral, alas.
i also remember the soul-crushingness of high school.
i should do this task with chris, wherein we would do a sleepover and stay up until 4am writing really bad fanfic and eating marshmallows like we did in the years 1998-2000.
