INSTRUCTIONS: Create a wind-powered device (such as a pinwheel or a kite) and put it in a windy public place.

I got the idea to make my pinwheel in the same meeting that I "Took Some Notes" in. I was determined to do it with recycled office supplies.

Now - before you get ready to hate on my smash hit, yet diminutive, pinwheel - let me state that I am the least mechanically/artistically inclined person on the planet. It took me a good two hours to figure out how I was going to get the pinwheel to turn independently of the stick - and that's given my smash hit intellect. So you know this was hard.

If you look at figures one and two - I shall explain my construction materials -

1. I took the plastic roll that resides at the center of the printer paper used for a Casio printable calculator. I have no idea why I saved this - or do I? I used took a magnet given to me by one of our vendors, cut it to size and stick clued it to one end of the plastic roll.

2. I utilized a #2 pencil for my pinwheel stick. I inserted this into the plastic roll - my glued magnet keeping it from sliding out the other end.

3. I took four old 3x5 card dividers labeled for the months JUNE, JULY, AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER. For those keen ones out there, they will note that these are the months remaining in this era of SF0. I labeled each card, front and bag, with "SF0.ORG" in big, black Sharpie.

4. I glued the cards (as displayed) to the closed end of the plastic roll.

Now - it's not particularly windy here in L.A. I decided to place my pinwheel at the bus stop near my house on the corner of Sunset Blvd. and Coronado. Behind the bus stop is a community garden which was my original choice of placement. However, my roommate (who took the pictures) pointed out that there was a small hole in the bus stop bench itself. Placing it in there, I realized that the wind generated from the busses would cause the pinwheel to spin every time a bus stopped to drop/pick up passengers.

Everyone waiting at the bus stop was very curious as to what we were up to and I managed to talk one of them into a photo opportunity.

So - if you're on Sunset Blvd. in Echo Park in L.A. - stop by and say "Hi" to my pinwheel.

I like it; good job! You could probably also use this for Spread SF0.

Thanks....

...for the love Zig, but I'm trying (not saying I will succeed) to not use one task for another. I'm sure as things become for daunting, I'll rethink this opinion.
