I remember the first time I had to drive with my family from Chicago to Los Angeles ( we never could afford to fly), and my brother exclaimed to my mother that we must be going to the middle of nowhere. My cousin, who was only 5 years old at the time said, without missing a beat, "no, were going to the FAR SIDE of nowhere." This is always the first thing that comes to my mind when i hear someone use the phrase 'middle of nowhere.'
For this task, I thought of what in Chicago I could consider 'nowhere.' After a lot of thought and absolutely no concrete ideas, I gave up and went to dinner. Some time into the meal, my friends and I started talking about music and how we like a lot of lesser known bands. At some point somebody mentioned a small, Chi-based record company called, seriously, Nowhere records. I have to admit that I laughed a little to myself at how perfect it was.
The second I got back to my room, I looked up Nowhere records on Google and discovered that they host some pretty good talent. After a little research, I decided to give them a call. I had planned on telling them of my interest in their corporation and and this task, and going out there and measuring the studio to find the exact center. I pictured myself standing next to a small X taped on the floor marking the exact middle of 'nowhere.' It was a flawless plan, so I called them up and...
...nobody answered. Strange. It was during their normal business hours, in the middle of the day on a Tuesday. Disapointed, I left a message and waited for them to call me back. After three days, I still hadn't received a call, and was a little depressed since my plan was so, so perfect. In the end I didn't call them back, I was a little afraid they'd be creeped out about it, and I didn't want to disturb their place of business.
So, in place of my original, perfect plan, i went to Google Earth and found their address at 2842 W Fletcher Street in Chicago,Illinois. I measured the lot as accurately as I could, and found that the approximate middle of nowhere lies at 41°56'19.49"N, 87°41'58.47"W.

nice - too bad you didn't get to stand in the middle of 'Nowhere' - don't be afraid of being persistent! for tasking it almost always pays off.
also:
"the FAR SIDE of nowhere." kudos to your kid cousin.
