Work is So Strange by mella hyperborea
March 19th, 2006 7:38 PMA few days ago a woman I work with was having trouble matching the receipts that come out of the fax machine post-fax with the reports that were just faxed.
I had to show her that 2/3 of the receipt is a reproduction of what was just faxed. So you just visually match them.
What makes that strange? She's worked at this office 3 years longer than me and has faxed 5 to 20 reports a day during that entire period, using the same machine, getting the same receipts. She'd not noticed, over what amounts to 1000s of these receipts, that 2/3 of the page is a reproduction of what had been faxed. In over 5 years she'd not once looked at these pages nor assimilated any information about them.
What is strange is how oblivious people can be to their daily environments.
